The women in the programmes were clad in red saris, ornaments and bangles. Teej is the largest festival of Nepalese Hindu women that falls on the third day of the new moon of Shrawan month in Nepalese calendar. Celebrated for three days, this year Teej falls today (September 16). This festival marks the wedlock of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and women fast for the long life of their husbands, and sing and dance. The CFNRCD Teej programme was chaired by President Bhim Sunar. Rekha Rai, President of Nepalese Women Society (NWS), was the chief guest. During the five-hour-long programme, women audience danced on the tunes of folk songs. Artists of Nepalese Cultural Family (NCF) Issa Gotani and Rita BK among others showcased their dancing skills. The programme organised by NUS was chaired by President Amina Khan. During the programme, many artistes performed. Renu Gurung danced to her own song that dealt with gender equality. Artiste Kumari Kanda and Susma Raman also performed. A group performance was executed by the ten dancers from Shakti Cultural Initiative. NUS also collected money for Sangita Gurung, employed in Qatar since 2012 and in need of kidney treatment. The BSS programme was chaired by President Ramesh Bhatta. The programme also featured various cultural performances. Musical band Om Sangam Sadhana performed Teej folk songs. Dancers Rabina Lama and Madhu Lama performed a dance during the band’s performance. Singer songwriter Ganga BC sang a Teej song. Dancer Suraj BC performed a comic Teej dance.
